The phosphonate used in this study is diethylenetriamine pentakis (methylene phosphonic acid) (DTPMP).additives for waterborne coatingsAn amorphous calcium–DTPMP solid is precipitated by mixing a calcium-containing solution with a DTPMP solution. The stoichiometry of this initially formed solid can be experimentally confirmed via a static dissolution test. Following another dynamic development test, two additional Ca–DTPMP solid phases, i.e., a middle phase and a crystalline phase have been observed. Electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were employed to characterize the morphology and crystallinity of different Ca–DTPMP solids of interest. Evidently, the dynamic brine flushing of the Ca–DTPMP solid developed the initially amorphous material into a middle phase solid with an amorphous/microcrystalline structure and eventually into a crystalline material. Furthermore, a dissolution characterization study was carried out to determine the solubility product of the middle phase solid at different conditions. Diethylene Triamine Penta (Methylene Phosphonic Acid) DTPMP is non-toxic, easily soluble in acid solution. DTPMP has excellent scale and corrosion inhibition and good temperature tolerance ability. DTPMP can inhibit the scale formation of carbonate and sulfate. In alkaline environment and high temperature (above 210℃),phosphonates in water treatmentits scale inhibition performance is better than other organic phosphine. DTPMP can be used as scale and corrosion inhibitor in circulating cool water system and boiler water, especially in alkali circulating cool water without additional pH regulation. DTPMP can also be used as peroxide stabilizer (especially under the condition of high temperature, the stability of hydrogen peroxide is very good), as chelating agent in woven & dyeing industry, as pigment dispersant, as oxygen delignification stabilizer, as microelement’s carrying agent in fertilizer, and as concrete additive. In addition, DTPMP is also used in papermaking, electroplating, metal pickling and cosmetics. It can also be used as stabilizer for oxidizing bactericide.

DLS and AFM Studies on the Cluster Evolution of Organically Modified Silica Gels Catalyzed by a Super Strong Acid Time evolution of cross-linking clusters prepared by the sol−gel method was investigated by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The samples were prepared by the sol−gel synthesis of 1,8-bis(triethoxysilyl)octane (Tes-Oct) in the presence of phosphotungstic acid (PWA) as a super strong acid. The reaction batches were quenched at various reaction times,dtpmp scale inhibitorfollowed by dilution with a large amount of the solvent. DLS and AFM techniques simultaneously revealed that there exists a maximum cluster size, Rh and rAFM, respectively, for a specific PWA concentration. The information on the clusters density, ρcluster = (rAFM/Rh)3, generated during the reaction process was obtained by systematically comparing the DLS data obtained in the swollen state to the AFM data measured in the shrunken state of the cross-linked clusters. It was found that not only the cluster size but also ρcluster exhibited a maximum for [PWA]/[Tes-Oct] = 0.10 near the gel point of the Tes-Oct clusters. Since PWA is not only a super strong acid as a catalyst for the sol−gel synthesis but is also a proton conductor, the resulting materials can be utilized as a fuel-cell membrane. The ac impedance measurements revealed that the proton conductivity also exhibited a similar maximum at this specific PWA concentration, revealing the optimum condition for design of conducting membrane.
