Cheap Flights To Israel? The One Trick You Need To Know

Cheap Flights To Israel? The One Trick You Need To Know As I write this, a friend of mine is on board an El Al jetliner transporting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from Tel Aviv to Washington, D.C. Now, this isn't a route that El Al Israel Airlines normally flies, but then El Al is not just another airline—it's the flag carrier of the State of Israel. And while its storied history and solid reputation makes it easy to recommend, it is not always the airline that's going to get you to Israel for the least amount of money.Cheap Flights from Xian to Urumqi The good news is that there are more choices in the skies for travel to Israel than ever before. The reason? Two words: Open Skies. Israel and the European Union signed a landmark Open Skies agreement back in 2012. This accord freed European carriers from many restrictions and led to a steady increase in the number of foreign airlines that can operate in Israel. Naturally, Israeli airlines at first resisted the move because it meant they have to do more to stay competitive, especially with their added security costs, but overall Open Skies has contributed to a boom in Israeli air travel. According to the Israel Airports Authority in 2012 some 12.4 million international passengers passed though Ben Gurion Airport; by the end of 2016 that figure had jumped to 17.3 million passengers. Open Skies has generally been kinder to the European low-cost carriers servicing Israeli airports than to legacy airlines, at least in terms of giving passengers more bang for their buck. Airlines that provide year-round non-stop service from North American cities to Tel Aviv, whether El Al or American carriers like Delta, will likely always have their acolytes, and for different and valid reasons. But if you're looking at your bottom line with any kind of scrutiny and don't mind a European layover, it may be time to rethink how you book your next trip to Israel.
