QANTAS DREAMLINER FIRST FLIGHT REVIEW: WHAT TO EXPECT ON BOARD

QANTAS DREAMLINER FIRST FLIGHT REVIEW: WHAT TO EXPECT ON BOARD The voice welcoming the passengers on board QF787 is not the usual Aussie accent to which we’re accustomed. Instead, it’s the Irish lilt of our national carrier’s CEO Alan Joyce, who’s taken to the mic to declare this new Dreamliner the best plane Qantas has ever put into the air. This is no ordinary plane and certainly no ordinary flight.air ticket from singapore to shanghai The departure location is the runway at Boeing’s Everett factory in Seattle, Washington, and the passenger list is a who’s who of Qantas, here with their partners to celebrate Great Southern Land, the name given to the first of eight Dreamliners to be rolled out in the next year.On wheels up, everyone — including Joyce — dons their limited edition Martin Grant pyjamas. It’s midday. The standard business class grey marle sleepware has been substituted for blavy (black-navy) and instead of a discreet logo, the flying kangaroo is a dramatic silver metallic taking up the entire front. The French-based, Australian-born designer is on board and in true fashion form, and with much laughter, wears his top in reverse. The amenities kit also falls into the short-run-only category. The black, embossed pouch has been designed by Australian artists Craig & Karl in collaboration with Oroton.Consulting designer David Caon is present to experience first hand his new cabin design. As is Professor Stephen Simpson Sydney University’s Charles Perkins Centre, who is heading up a new program to help discover ways to beat jet lag; and so too Iva Davies, who was on hand at the launch to sing his band Icehouse’s famous song, Great Southern Land.
