Granted, Barker is a representative from the state of Kansas, but you’d have to live on the western side of Missouri or eastern side of Kansas to even know where one stops and the other starts, and even then, you often end up in the opposite state without even knowing it.
We doubt if online gambling is going to be on the table anytime soon, especially given the state’s preference for doing things approximately 457 years after all of the other states do. Surprisingly, Missouri was one of the first states to authorize and regulate daily fantasy sports (DFS) because they considered it a game of skill.

Danville officials pick site for potential casino; request for proposals sent today
Solicitations for proposals for a casino project in Danville’s Southgate
Industrial Park area were scheduled to go out this morning to
prospective operators throughout the country.

"We don’t want this to be an island,†Cocagne said, meaning it shouldn’t be just a casino."We want this to be an asset to the community,†said Cocagne, who envisions a project with restaurants, retail and other entertainment and attractions.
The city and Vermilion Advantage have partnered with Cocagne — president and CEO of Vermilion Development, which got its start in Danville in 1992 — who will help guide the city through the process of finding the right casino developer and submitting a license application to the Illinois Gaming Board by the deadline at October’s end.
At Tuesday’s city council meeting, he outlined the application process, the hefty financial investment the developer needs to make, the type of site they’re looking for and the "enormous†role the city plays, including signing off on a site and developer and passing a resolution or ordinance in support of a casino in the community."All of this has to be done before the application is submitted,†Cocagne said, adding that any project needs the city’s buy-in.
He commended Mayor Rickey Williams Jr. for acting quickly to put together a steering committee, which will use an evaluation matrix to review proposals, make a short list of and interview finalists and ultimately recommend a casino developer to the council for approval.
Besides Williams, the panel includes Vicki Haugen and Tinisha Shade-Spain of Vermilion Advantage; interim Police Chief Chris Yates; attorney and former Corporation Counsel Dave Wesner; Gardner Peck of Danville Metal Stamping; Jerry Connolly of Venture Mechanical; and Alderman Mike Puhr.Williams and Haugen, president and CEO of Vermilion Advantage, recommend two adjoining parcels — one 40 acres, the other 32 — in Southgate as the potential site, and the steering committee endorsed the idea.

Calls for Crown casino inquiry after leaked video of bricks of cash in junket room
Video footage showing dozens of "bricks†of $50 and $100 notes –
hundreds of thousands of dollars worth – being casually handed over from
a shopping bag in a high-rollers’ room at Melbourne’s Crown Casino have
sparked renewed calls for a royal commission into alleged criminality

The footage, shot on Crown’s own security cameras, shows an unknown man handing over hundreds of thousands of dollars in Australian currency inside the Suncity junket room at Crown. He pulls the money, wrapped in elastic bands, from a freezer shopping bag, and waits, and appears to speak with friends and casino staff while it is exchanged for high-value casino chips.
Suncity is a Macau-based gambling tour operator that flies in wealthy Chinese gamblers to Australian casinos. It has a dedicated gaming room at Crown.The footage was leaked by three Victorian state gambling inspectors turned whistleblowers and released publicly by the independent member for Clark, Andrew Wilkie, who has repeatedly called for a royal commission into the casino.
"People probably think that everything that goes on is squeaky clean ... ,†one of the whistleblowers says on the footage, his voice obscured. "But in fact it’s fucked."You see people coming in with bags of money, cash, it’s a junkets room, it’s specially designed for people that come in from overseas, the Suncity room at Crown.â€
The Suncity room faced closure by the Victorian Commission for Gaming and Liquor Regulation in 2017 over alleged ties to organised crime, but remains open. The whistleblower said high-rollers in the casino were never challenged by casino staff.Anybody can walk in with any amount of money and launder it … Nobody really cares.
"They get to do what they want. They can bring anybody into the casino, they can bring in as much money as they like, nothing is ever said.â€The whistleblower said a reduced presence of Victoria police inside the casino meant suspected criminals were able to allegedly launder money with impunity.
Wilkie has called for a royal commission into Crown, arguing the footage follows earlier allegations of money laundering, machine tampering, drug running and domestic violence at the casino. Crown has also been accused of breaking immigration laws to illegally bring people into Australia to gamble.
"For many years we’ve been told of shocking crimes occurring at Crown and now we have new footage that supports these claims,†Wilkie said."The inspectors who have provided these videos say countless millions of dollars are regularly laundered inside Crown. Crown can no longer claim this isn’t happening. The design of the new Tianjin Teda School
In an international competition for the ‘Teda High School in Tianjin,
China’, organised by the city of Tianjin, schneider+schumacher have been
awarded first prize. Their winning scheme proposes a complete – rather
than partial – reconstruction of the school, originally built in the

This is the second success in China for schneider+schumacher, who run a main office in Frankfurt as well as offices in Tianjin, China and Vienna, Austria. Their other competition-winning proposal for the Civic Center in Hangzhou is about to start on site.
The site is centrally located in the city, in Tianjin’s ‘Teda Economic Development Zone’ located in the Binhai District. The current school has already established an excellent reputation and tellingly bears the name ‘Teda No. 1 School’.
The brief called for two different approaches. The core concept was to replace just some of the existing buildings with new structures, and to revitalise the remaining buildings. In the other concept, the architects were asked to ignore the existing constraints and consider the consequences of a erecting a totally new building.
schneider+schumacher’s design concept unites both these approaches by creating a coherent programme for phasing the construction work. The idea won unanimous approval from both the jury and the local politicians and convinced them to rebuild not just a few of the buildings, but the entire school.
The design comprises a single five-storey building of about 63,000 square metres, with a 180-metre long hallway – the school’s ‘backbone’ – acting as a central element linking all the other key areas. This backbone, aside from its role as circulation space, offers a pleasant, informal area where students will be able to meet and talk – a feature that traditional Chinese schools lack. On upper levels, connecting bridges meander through the red walls of the staircase, alluding to ‘Liu Shang Qu Shui‘, a traditional Chinese story about the collective creation, exchange, and transmission of knowledge.
The long hallway links together classrooms for a total of 2,700 students, the school cafeteria, the library, an auditorium for 600 people, and the sports hall. In keeping with the surrounding urban texture, these elements are clearly expressed as individual volumes. The elevation’s strict vertical and horizontal glass elements and stone-cladding sets the school visually apart from more typical Chinese school buildings, and the design aims to safeguard the school’s excellent reputation as well as provide a stimulating learning environment for students and teachers.

Only South Korea has seen a retraction, with some international schools struggling to fill places.
But the big story is China. From a dozen schools 15 years ago, China has some 530 English-medium international schools, catering for 326,000 students.

Moved to Shanghai to Work for Disney
I moved abroad to Shanghai, China at the end of August 2018. The
decision to work and live abroad in Shanghai was motivated by a job
opportunity with The Walt Disney Company. I started working for the
company in May 2014 as a performer through the college program at Walt
Disney World in Orlando. I was intrigued to see how a company as big as
Disney functioned in China compared to in the United States. Moving to Shanghai
I work as an English teacher for young children through Disney’s extracurricular English program known in China as Disney English. In 2017, China’s extracurricular education market exceeded $4 billion. Many Chinese parents are eager to enroll their children in an extracurricular program to give them a head start in school. Disney English has created their program as a standout among the many other English learning programs throughout China. Shanghai itself is an incredible city. There is a fascinating contrast throughout the city in almost every area. Take, for example, the food.
Within the same block, you will likely find carts selling cooked chicken feet, a common street food, and McDonald’s selling some of the exact burgers as in the US. You see the same contrast on the roads, which will be swept by hand with brooms made of bamboo branches, as Teslas and Rolls Royces drive by. It is a unique opportunity to live somewhere growing at a rate as fast as Shanghai, and I’m glad I made the decision to take on the challenge. While many cultural aspects in China including the language and food are still foreign to me, both experiences of working for Disney and living abroad have helped me appreciate how universal many of the classic Disney lessons are. Disney characters and their stories are beloved by the Chinese the same way they are by Americans.
